Good article. There are some minor swear words in my children's adventure novels, mainly of the "bloody hell" and "damn" variety. A parent would have to be a bit on the Puritanical side to take issue with it. Swearing in the children's films I grew up with (The Goonies for instance) was a lot worse. I think parents have become less tolerant of such things, even though they add authenticity (not this parent though).

On the other hand, there are novels aimed at younger readers that contain strong language for good reason. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time is a good example.
