Good article proving an important point about the backbone of great storytelling.

I'm a huge fan of The Terminator, and despite now looking a bit dated, it's still my favourite James Cameron film. By contrast, the much higher budgeted Terminator 2 still looks fabulous, and was a visual effects quantum leap, but I prefer the lean, stripped down aesthetic of the original film, and think it has more emotional punch.

I must say, I can't agree with some of your assertions elsewhere regarding visual effects. Yes, CGI has reached a point where everything looks pretty seamless, but I generally prefer my visual effects in-camera (including Jaws, Star Wars, etc).
