Great article and I heartily concur. Since the reboot in 2005, I think the best Doctor was Matt Smith, but David Tennant is a very close second, and I prefer the stories from his era in any case. My favourite companion was Amy Pond, and some of Moffat's new monsters were amazing (the Weeping Angels, the Silence, the Vashta Nerada, the Clockwork robots). I think Davies was a better showrunner than Moffat, overall, but both were miles, miles better than Chibnall.
My favourite ever Doctor Who era is that of the early fourth Doctor, with Sarah Jane as companion, and Phillip Hinchcliffe as producer. That was truly a golden age, before Mary Whitehouse and other assorted spoilsports complained that we poor defenceless children needed mollycoddling, and that Doctor Who was far too scary.
