Great article.
I believe dystopian fiction is an essential social corrective to paths of destruction many of our politicians seem hellbent on pursuing. Most recently, in the US, there seems to be an absurd division between two authoritarian extremes - the Trump cult and their theocratic delusions on the one hand, and woke extremists on the other.
I actually temporarily moved away from my usual gothic mysteries and children's adventure novels to write a dystopian romance about this dismal state of affairs, though it isn't intended to be a political statement of any kind. Rather, it is a satire of the fears of both sides, set in the aftermath of a second American civil war. Here it is, if you're interested.
