Great review. I loved it (as I stated in my review - thanks for the shout, by the way). I think the glorious excess of the ending does work, personally. In fact, the absurdity really drives home the point.

I must say I don't think the state of cinema is as bad as you claim. Yes, mainstream Hollywood is going through an unpleasantly tepid patch (though there are honourable exceptions), but the rest of the world seems as vibrant, creative, and incisive as ever.
