He hasn't made anything recently because he couldn't get funding for his films, and chose to retire. It's a crying shame and makes me angry, quite honestly. I don't begrudge his retirement, but just think of the other films he could have made in the intervening years if studios had a little more artistic integrity or if independent financiers stepped in. I know he had a lot of potentially terrific projects that were never realised. Grrrr....
