He should have won an Oscar for this (I love Tom Hanks, but every other actor nominated that year was better than him, especially Hopkins). Emma Thompson should have won too. Their two career-best performances, in my not remotely humble opinion.

This is one of my all-time favourite novels and one of my all-time favourite films. Any other year, it ought to have won Best Picture and Director, but

not that year, as Schindler's List was also competing. Schindler's List deserved to win, but I hold both films in equally high esteem.
