Here's something I try to do: If I click on an article I want to read but intend to save it to a reading list for later, I wait thirty seconds and scroll down a bit, just in case the algorithm penalises the writer. I hope that isn't the case (the act of saving the article to me to-read list ought to in and of itself prevent that conclusion) but the whims of algorithms are strange.
