Here's something that used to make me proud to be British (and still does, sort of): Almost all the best pop acts are from the UK. Including all my personal favourites throughout the decades: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Queen, The Jam, The Clash, The Police, Human League, New Order, The Smiths, Duran Duran, U2, Pet Shop Boys, early 90s dance music acts like KLF and Shamen, Take That, Spice Girls, Blur, Suede, Pulp, Supergrass, Radiohead, Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, etc.
In the 21st Century it gets less consistent, but in the 2000s, people were consistently baffled when I told them my two favourite current groups were Muse and Girls Aloud, for very different reasons. I think on the whole we made much more interesting pop music, until reality TV and algorithms started killing that off.
