I'm glad the film resonated emotionally with you. It didn't particularly for me, though I still enjoyed it very much. I don't think gender necessarily has anything to do with it, though I do think you have a point about one's personal baggage with Barbie from childhood and so on. In my case, Barbie didn't feature in my childhood play in any way. I was aware of Barbie, of course, but not in any way that intersected with my personal development. So yes, I'm largely indifferent, but obviously I am interested in cinema, so was curious to see what Gerwig did.

From an objective standpoint as a piece of cinema, I stand by my assessment that it is good rather than a masterpiece, but a lot of fun. How much it resonates emotionally is obviously personal, as you point out. :)
