Hmm... In my experience, I typically don't keep up with people if they are not within my immediate geographic vicinity, but if I do see former friends again, I typically pick up where we left off easily enough.

There are some exceptions to this, including my best friend who lives in Israel (we're in daily contact). But then, she's never been in my immediate geographic vicinity.
