Hmmm... I think in the case you mention I can perhaps just about go along with it, as I think even at the time it was a foolish provocation. Believe it or not, I actually have a copy of the original version (inherited from my father, an avid book collector).
I understand "Indian" isn't considered offensive in the same way, and indeed some Native Americans prefer the term, or want to reclaim it? Either way, it certainly isn't in the same league as the n-word, and I think renaming it a second time was perhaps unnecessary. Still, as long as the body of the text isn't altered, I'm more or less OK with it. After all, nobody in my generation calls Star Wars "A New Hope" because it wasn't on the original 1977 release print. But these days, everyone else seems to.
