Hmmm... This one has some good stuff in it, and yes it sticks more closely to the novel, but as a film it is much too deeply flawed for me to include it on one of my best-of lists. It begins splendidly, but loses its way somewhat in the second half. Keanu Reeves sticks out like a sore thumb, and Anthony Hopkins's Van Helsing is underwritten and frankly rather overplayed (no fault of Hopkins, more the script and direction).
