I absolutely detest being accosted in swimming pools. There's a lido on the Plymouth seafront I frequent in summer (it's big, it's outdoor, and normally not too crowded) but whilst trying to swim on one recent occasion, I had the misfortune of being forcibly engaged in conversation by some bloke determined to tell me about his charitable attempts to raise money by a long distance swim in the sea. My wife (swimming nearby), fully aware of my loathing of unsolicited interaction with the general public, laughed at me but didn't intervene. With counselling, I believe I'll come to forgive her.
