I actually met him when he brought his first film, A Fistful of Fingers, to Southampton for a Comedy Film Festival I helped arrange (hosted at Harbour Lights cinema) whilst I was a student. Not many people have seen A Fistful of Fingers, and it was panned by critics at the time, but I rather enjoyed it for what it was. Even though it was a no-budget western spoof filmed in Somerset with a bizarre Jeremy Beadle cameo, it had a certain style to it, and I admired Edgar Wright for getting it finished so he had a proper calling card. Of course, the rest is history. :)
