I agree. Around the time of Batman Begins, Oldman had acquired an undeserved reputation for playing OTT villains (The Fifth Element, Leon, Air Force One, etc), so Nolan’s shrewd casting made great use of his talent. Another Oldman performance I’m particularly fond of is his Smiley in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Alec Guinness was great too, in the TV version.
