I agree. Most of these films fall short of the superior source material, for a variety of reasons. They are merely good when they ought to be outstanding. They got better as they went along (with The Prisoner of Azkaban being one of the better entries) but the only time they got close to the excellence of the novels was in that final film, to my mind.
