I agree. No offence to your parents of course, but that is legalistic folly.
My wife once had an argument with another mother who went into a fit of pearl-clutching over the fact that we let our then six year old view films like Sam Raimi's Spider-Man as it was rated 12. However, I think 12 is too late to learn some of the lessons of those films. For example, the scene in Spider-Man 2 when Peter walks past an alleyway and ignores a mugger having decided to give up being Spider-Man prompted an hour of discussion on sins of omission with my eldest, and it certainly shaped his worldview. Why would I want to deprive him of grappling with such issues until he was 12? My wife made that point to the Mary Whitehouse clone in question, but she wasn't having any of it. Oh, well...
