I agree with the spirit of where you are coming from. I have quit a job in exactly the manner you describe. However, not everyone is in a position where they can just up and quit. If they need the money, but are being tormented by petty, bureaucratic, power-crazed, bullying, micromanaging, corporate tool nitwit bosses with all their oppressively idiotic platitudes about "teamwork", "no problems just opportunities", and other assorted bollocks (especially the monstrous and abhorrent notion of working extra/early late just for the sake of appearances, or being available 24 hours a day when they aren't a member of the emergency services), I fully support digging their heels in and doing their contracted work and work hours, without any extra.
But I do agree they should be looking elsewhere for another job.
