I agree with this 100 percent. I greatly admire Villeneuve (despite my trepidation about Dune) and of course Martin Scorsese is a legend, but their comments about the MCU are misguided.
Lots of things follow a formula, as you say. Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie murder mysteries, slasher films, romantic comedies, Harry Potter novels... I could go on and on. There is nothing wrong with being formulaic, but the key is to not be predictable. Give the audience what they want, but not the way they expect it. On the whole, the MCU does this very well indeed.
