I am not from the US, but here in the UK I refuse to watch rolling news. Modern day television news is both a cesspool of unrelenting misery and propaganda from your echo chamber of choice. Even the BBC have lost their way in this regard, to a point.
In the old days in the UK, if there was an important news event, you'd get a one minute newsflash with a basic summary of the facts, then be asked to tune in again later in the day, when the full details would be properly and impartially presented. There was no sensationalist scrabbling for ratings or attempts to appeal to echo chambers, nor did anyone give a damn what "Brian from Southampton" thought about political issues, per those interminable scrolls in the lower third of the screen. It was so much more factual and dare I say dignified.
Sadly, that all went the way of the dodo once rolling news came to the UK. Today I do little more than scan headlines on the BBC website and occasionally The Guardian, whilst being fully aware that both have their own agendas too.
