I can actually respect this decision, since Kubrick's masterpiece loses so much impact on television (I've seen it at the cinema four times - once in 70mm, once in 35mm, and twice in 4K). It is a singular work of pure cinema and a landmark film that demands the big screen. Seeing it on TV is like looking at postcards of the Sistine Chapel instead of seeing the real thing.

Still - because it is the greatest science fiction film of all time, I do sometimes watch my DVD copy.
