I can't agree with you on the body of work recognition thing. That ought to be a lifetime achievement award. The Best Actress award ought to be for Best Actress in any given year (not that Michelle Yeoh is bad in that film, as I stated).
But Oscar history is rife with decisions of this kind. For instance, Al Pacino winning for Scent of a Woman (not a film I much care for), but everyone knew it was really for The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, etc.
One more thing: I've just glanced at your review of Babylon. I'll read it properly tomorrow and comment, but I can safely tell you we're about to have another major disagreement (my review will be out tomorrow). Hahahaha! ;)
