I can't say I agree with that. Michael Powell was an extraordinary director - A Matter of Life and Death, I Know Where I'm Going, Black Narcissus, The Red Shoes, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, etc. I get that Peeping Tom jabbed raw nerves, but I don't believe it deserved the reaction it got, especially when Psycho came out the same year (which pushed the envelope just as much) and audiences embraced that. I might write a piece on why I think they embraced one and rejected the other, as that would be a fascinating study.
