I completely agree. I'd add to your list Rain Man, for which I'd have given him the Oscar over Dustin Hoffman (in the more obviously Oscar bait role), and also Born on the Fourth of July, for which he deserved to win an Oscar every bit as much as Daniel Day Lewis did (in My Left Foot).
