I disagree with what you're saying here. Anora is deliberately subverting the Cinderella/Pretty Woman romantic comedy trope, whilst putting its own spin on key plot beats. I though the direction was superb, the performances remarkable (especially Mikey Madison, but also Yura Borisov, who plays Igor), and the dark streak of absurdist comedy was undercut by genuine poignancy in that deftly ambiguous final scene. Baker is an interesting director, and what I love about his films is he presents flawed characters without judgement. His perspective is one of humane compassion, regardless of their faults. I think that applies as much to Anora as it does to The Florida Project.
