I don't agree with this personally, as I'm a separate art from artist extremist. Also film is a hugely collaborative medium. On top of that, I must say the Academy are staggering hypocrites for giving Polanski an Oscar decades after the incident in question, then expelling him because of political expediency in the wake of #MeToo. I refuse to concern myself with any of this, and just watch the films (and if they are good, I make no apology about saying so - The Pianist was superb). But each to their own conviction, obviously.
