I don’t comment on Oscar politics (these days, there is as much mud-slinging in campaigns as there is during any general election). However, I enjoyed the film when I saw it at the cinema last year. It didn’t all work, but the bonkers genre mashup was certainly never boring. I expected it to be a cult hit, nothing more. But now it has been wildly overpraised so I’m not surprised at the backlash.
