I generally prefer my literary and screen romances doomed (with the exception of romantic comedies).

I have no idea why we derive such pleasure from watching romantic relationships that are doomed to fail. Perhaps because we’ve lived through one. Or perhaps it’s because we wish we could’ve lived one since unrequited love sucks substantially more…
