I have to say I get quite cynical when the word "patriarchy" gets thrown around to the extent it does today. In fact, it's a bit of a running joke in my family (quips around "patriarchal armchairs" for instance, or even, as my youngest once wittily suggested, the "pastryarchy", which concerns struggles of women to get top jobs in a bakery).
Despite all this, there are examples where male-centric cultures really do damage both sexes, and this film illustrates a prime example. So yes, I think you are correct, and I expect you would appreciate it. :)
