I haven't time to engage my brain to that degree at present, suffice to say fandom has changed a great deal over the years. But back in the late 1990s, before the prequels, I'd have said Star Wars fans were more relaxed than their Trekkie counterparts. Around the same time (the late 1990s), I went to a Star Trek convention to conduct interviews for a radio programme, and met a person who had translated half the Bible into Klingon. Perhaps he was thinking of attempting to convert them to Christianity. When I mildly suggested Star Trek was a good bit of fun, he was mortally offended, and insisted it was a way of life in a rather scary, cult-ish way.
Personally, I enjoy both Star Wars and Star Trek (the original crew, not so keen on the others).
