I heartily agree.
I have never given NaNoWriMo a second thought, as I don't do "pantsing". I'm a strict planner and have my own methods. Typically, I write one novel per year, with the planning, outlining, research, character profiles, and so on in autumn, then I spend the following January, February, and March writing the first draft (taking December off entirely). I then leave the first draft aside for one year, and return to it exactly a year later just after I've finished the first draft of the next novel (if that makes sense). That's when I do the first rewrite, and afterwards send it out to beta readers. Then I do further rewrites as needed, before sending it to agents/publishers, or self-publishing. :)
