I hope not, because I just self-published a new collection of dystopian sci-fi novellas and short stories today (entitled Love and Other Punishments). I'm not expecting to sell as many as my novels sell, mind you. Hahahahaha!
One thing I do believe is if you are a well-known author, you can be promiscuous in genre with short story collections. But if like me you're an unknown quantity (let's be realistic) it is better to stick to genre themed collections. I'd previously released a horror anthology, and this new one is dystopian sci-fi themed (as I've already said).
Anyway, this article has some excellent thoughts and points, thank you. :)
