I knew a few pubs like that in Abingdon in my youth.

…blic house. We were 15 and the local pubs were not too fussy in those days. Especially The Railway. “How old are you, son?” the barman would ask and I’d say, “18.” He’d nod and say, “Fair enough, the usual?”

I knew a few pubs like that in Abingdon in my youth. One in particular, the Fitzharris Arms (now sadly no more), we'd joke about, saying a toddler could get served there. :)
