I know the US has a few unique problems because the government there doesn't support the arts (unlike the UK which has the taxpayer funded BFI, thank God, which helped out many independent venues during the pandemic). But here in the UK at least, cinema seems to be bouncing back well. Yes, certain big mainstream Hollywood blockbusters with criminally inflated budgets haven't made a profit, but outside of mainstream Hollywood, cinema is thriving. Korean cinema, Japanese cinema, Middle-Eastern cinema, Indian cinema, European cinema, British films, and even the US independent scene seems in rude health, making decent albeit sometimes modest returns on investment. More importantly, outside the creative timidity of mainstream Hollywood, cinema remains as vibrant, incisive, creative, and challenging as ever. :)
