I love Forbidden Planet, and I'm ashamed to say I've never seen it in the cinema (it's on the cinematic bucket list).

Doctor Zhivago is magnificent on a big screen, I quite agree. That moment where the train comes out of the tunnel after the intermission is astonishing. It's also one of my all-time favourites. However, I decided to only allow one film per director chosen for this list, which is why I went with Lawrence of Arabia. :)

I've had a few comments on this piece regarding The Exorcist. Whilst this list concentrates on cinema as spectacle, I don't believe enough is said about cinema as intense and intimate. The Exorcist falls into this category. Having all that hysteria in your face on a big screen is more immersive, and the excellent sound design helps. But I also included it because of what I mentioned about me finding it too scary to watch at home.

Thank you very much for reading and commenting. :)
