I love many other films starring Kevin Costner, but not this one. I've written at length about why elsewhere, but to pick up on the Alan Rickman point - yes, he is brilliant as an actor. But in this film, the script writes his characters as a sadistic buffoon (however amusingly, in a Monty Python sort of way) and he lacks the cunning and menace of Claude Rains and Basil Rathbone in The Adventures of Robin Hood (the 1938 classic starring Errol Flynn) to which this film aspires. That's one of many factors that undermines Prince of Thieves for me.
