I love the ironies of this film: A group of Puritans too religiously extreme for their own community are so obsessed with the idea of sin that it becomes a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. I've seen this many times in my own life growing up around evangelical culture - those most foaming at the mouth about "sin" tend to be those who wind up becoming the very thing they profess to hate.
