I love Up, especially the opening, but I struggle with the idea that a childless couple gainfully employed in an affluent nation like America wouldn't at some point be able to afford a trip to South America, so in this sense, you have a point. I think this may be a plot hole rather than any unpleasant agenda on Pixar's part though. :)
