I must say I disagree with you. Spielberg often gets accused of being overly sentimental, and whilst a degree of that is a matter of personal taste, I think the accusation is sometimes made unfairly. Yes, arguably the bookends of Saving Private Ryan don't add much and are overdone, but I don't find that true of Schindler's List. Or Munich. Or many of Spielberg's other more grown-up films.
I think Schindler's List is profoundly moving for all the reasons I wrote about in my own article on it. It has immense value and is my favourite film of the 1990s.
(I love Jurassic Park too, by the way. :) )
