I must say I think you're being way too harsh. Men may be one-note, obvious, and flawed (I've written about the film here, if you're interested) but it isn't Michael Bay Transformers abysmal, and I think there are quite a few good things about it too.
I do agree with you, in general, about the "prestige horror" thing though. I've ranted elsewhere about this ghastly trend of referring to "elevated horror" (again, here, if you're interested). There's no such thing as elevated horror. There are psychological horror films, which are a horror subgenre just like the slasher film, zombie film, etc. If someone likes those more then fair enough, but it really grinds my gears when they get all all snobby by pretending it is somehow "elevated" (or "prestige" as you put it so eloquently).
