I often think anyone who wants to be a manager for the sake of it shouldn't be a manager. It's like wanting to be famous for the sake of being famous.

Until fairly recently (I took voluntary redundancy in 2020 to pursue writing) I was a manager for almost twenty years, running a department of between seven and ten people at any given point (in some cases managing people in Israel, India, and the US).
