I saw this at the cinema during the original release, and was hugely impressed by the set design, imagination, and scares on display. What disappointed me was that it appeared to have been pared down from a longer cut, and I got the sense I was seeing damaged goods. I would love to have seen the original cut of the film. Alas, I don't think it will ever emerge, sadly.
