I skimmed this article after reading the beginning as I don't want to spoil it for myself (it is out next month in the UK).
However, regarding your opening statement, there have been a number of other revenge films nominated for Best Picture. In the last decade for instance, The Revenant and Django Unchained were both Best Picture nominees.
For my money, the best revenge film ever made is still Get Carter (obviously I mean the Mike Hodges/Michael Caine original, not the atrocious Stallone remake).
Obviously those are all rather different to Promising Young Woman, which has an interesting and provocative premise. I look forward to seeing it soon.
