I suppose what I'm trying to get at (very poorly) is this: When unknown, the only reason I would ever have for choosing a pseudonym would be to remain anonymous in the event of stupendous fame (yes, people might recognise me sometimes, but not in the same way they recognise actors and pop stars). However, when checking into hotels or suchlike having a pseudonym would enable you to do so under your real name without indiscreet staff potentially tipping off the press.

Having considered the above wishful-thinking scenario briefly before my novels were published, I decided not to go with a pseudonym. I can only assume JK Rowling went through similar mental gymnastics before Harry Potter was published, and came to a similar, can't-be-bothered conclusion. The difference is of course she went on to become spectacularly famous, and I went on to be me. Hahahahahaha! But I hope that more or less explains what I was trying to get at. Sorry for the confusion.
