I take your point completely about Come and See not compromising by making war implicitly thrilling, but just plain horrifying. However, I also believe that the most important of messages are delivered to more receptive audiences when entertainingly presented. That includes important truths not just about the hellish nature of war, but the deep insights into the human condition that generates war in the first place.
So in that sense, I believe there is a balance to be struck between entertainment and uncompromising depiction. :)
