I think if telling a true story within living memory using real names, people, events, etc, then one can't really manufacture character arcs. I think in this case, a documentary on him would have been better than a drama. But obviously that couldn't happen as he was dead (it damn well should have happened thirty plus years ago), so I am pleased the film exists to honour his memory, even though it has shortcomings. :)
