I think it is possible. For example, my favourite Stanley Kubrick film might be Killer's Kiss (it isn't by the way), but objectively 2001: A Space Odyssey is clearly the greater, more influential, more groundbreaking, more important, cinematic landmark.

In a similar way, I think Psycho is probably Hitchcock's most influential and possibly greatest film, but in a list of my favourites it would appear far down the list, behind films that I think are, objectively, a lot less influential.
