I think that is a valid point about our different cultures. For example, in the UK, we have a history of taking the piss with satirical cartoons. Centuries of it. We've always ridiculed those in power.

When Trump visited, we had that massive Trump baby balloon flying around, and a lot of Trump voters were offended. But leaving aside how odious Trump is, these Trump supporters failed to understand we do that to all our leaders, even those we love. Even our beloved Queen Elizabeth II wasn't immune to being sent up - see her many appearances in rubber puppets on TV series Spitting Image, for instance. What's more I'm sure she would have entirely approved.
