I think these kinds of suggestions are valid for any sort of extended family gathering, not just Thanksgiving. If I may suggest, start an argument about films. Perhaps over who is the best James Bond? Controversially suggest George Lazenby. That's bound to raise a few eyebrows. Or perhaps repeat Quentin Tarantino's claim that Marvel films don't contain movie stars, because the characters themselves (eg Captain America) are the stars. That ought to raise the hackles of Chris Evans fans.
